Demonstrations/experiments have been performed on a tank containing flammable liquid, and covered with EVAPOSTOP discs. The results of the experiments clearly show that the EVAPOSTOP discs suppress the fire case by reducing the flammable vapor available for fuelling the fire. The initial fire took up to 10 times as long as a normal tank fire to reach full escalation, At full escalation, the tank fire was considerably smaller than that of a similar fire in an exposed tank (i.e. in a tank without EVAPOSTOP discs).
Foarn was used in fighting the fire. Tanks with either existing sub-surface or top foam injection (fixed systems on the tanks) are ideal for fighting fires in conjunction with the EVAPOSTOP discs
